ILOILO City – In addition to receiving sacraments, Ilonggos will remember former Jaro Archbishop Emeritus Angel Lagdameo for the holding of the third diocesan synod in 2005, over 30 years since it was last held.
Lagdameo passed away on July 8. He was buried yesterday, July 20, at the Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral.
Jaro Archdiocese’s Commission on Social Communication director Father Angelo Colada said the changes in the archdiocese were the results of the synod.
“We look at the status of the diocese, how we can respond and the policies and programs that should be done,” he said in an interview.
The reshuffling of priests that is done every six years is one of the changes as a result of the synod.
Lagdameo served for two terms as president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) from 2005 to 2009.
The 81-year-old archbishop died while admitted to a hospital.
Born in Lucban, Quezon on Aug. 2, 1940, he stayed in the archdiocese for 22 years, 18 years as archbishop since March 11, 2000.
In February 2018 his resignation was accepted by Pope Francis but remained as Apostolic Administrator until the appointment of his replacement in April of the same year. (PNA)
