ILOPRISAA bags WVPRISAA HS girls volleyball crown

ILOILO City – ILOPRISAA emerged as champions in the secondary girls volleyball competition of 2023 Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) on Thursday at the University of San Agustin Gym here.

ILOPRISAA, which was composed mostly of players from Central Philippine University Golden Lions, captured the crown after defeating NOPSSCEA, represented by St. John’s Institute-Bacolod, in the finals.

Former National U-18 girls volleyball team member Zacchea Maganto spearheaded the offense for ILOPRISAA while also gaining some support from veterans Rovy Ann Amuan, Yvonny Fajarito and Jozline Salazar.

Also part of the team were Golden Lions players Jeselle Mae Abrot, Keicess Estelle Develos, Ayah Isabelle Gaurana, Anne Grace Gabinete, Meg Hondrade, Trixie Pauline Sampiano and Rossy Marie Sumalacay.

Completing the ILOPRISAA crew were Noilyn Gel Amin from Sun Yat Sen High School, Mera Calderon from Hua Siong College of Iloilo and Necole Grace Deala from Santa Clarita International School.

Serving as head coach for the ILOPRISAA secondary girls volleyball team is Jeffrey Alcarde with Alain Tarrazona as his assistant coach and Jonah-El Buenvenida sa chaperon.

For ruling the tournament, ILOPRISAA squad has earned the right to represent Western Visayas in the National PRISAA tournament, which will be held this July in Zamboanga City.

ILOPRISAA’s victory served as a bounce back after they faltered to NOPSSCEA, represented by Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, in the WVRAA Meet Finals last month.

The Thunderbolts were also supposed to represent NOPSSCEA in the WVPRISAA Meet but they opted to compete in the Shakey’s Girls Volleyball Invitational tournament in Metro Manila.

St. John’s Institute, as the runner up team in the NOPSSCEA Meet held in Bacolod City earlier this year, took over as Negros representatives in the two-day volleyball competition./PN
