ILOPRISAA taekwondo fighters dominated the elementary and secondary poomsae events in the 2017 Iloilo Schools Sports Council (ISSC) Meet at the Iloilo Sports Complex in Iloilo City.

The delegation, mostly composed of players from Ateneo de Iloilo, captured a total of 12 medals – 10 gold, a silver and a bronze – on Friday to claim the overall lead in the taekwondo event.

Roivic John Decafe and Gabriel Alfonso Samson bagged gold in elementary boys’ individual, the same with Elizabeth Marie Borres and Angelie Marie Perillo in elementary girls’ individual.

The tandem of Kean Ryth Bornazal and Niesha Karix Pequierda also claimed gold in the elementary mixed pair, while Borres, Perillo and Pequierda topped the elementary girls’ team.

In the secondary division, Sophia Marie Tungala and Cindy Joy Diasnes each took a gold in girls’ individual while John Patric Palonpon ruled boys’ individual.

Xyrus Andrei Desierto and Kershel Kail Silava bagged gold in mixed pair; Diasnes, Tungala and Silava won girls’ team; and Desierto, Palonpon and James Daniel Tungala topped boys’ team.

Desierto bagged the delegation’s lone silver in secondary boys’ individual, while Samson, Decafe and Kean Rtyh Bornazal placed third in elementary boys’ team.

“I am proud of the way my players performed,” said ILOPRISAA trainer Mark Pinggol. “I know they gave their all since there was a lot at stake here in the ISSC Meet, including a chance to compete in the WVRAA (Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet) next year.”/PN
