Impose stricter curfew for minors, Bacolod police, brgys urged

BACOLOD City – The City Council has urged the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) and the 61 barangays here to strictly enforce the curfew for minors.

A lot of minors are still seen loitering around the city past curfew hours.

Councilor Simplicia Distrito, chairman of the City Council committee on social services and development, said some children were even apprehended for theft, robbery, possession illegal drugs, and vandalism.

She added that the stringent implementation of the curfew for minors ordinance is one way to rescue and to keep away underage children from unlawful acts and exploitation.

City Ordinance (CO) No. 331, authored by Distrito, provides special protection for children during nighttime by imposing curfew on minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the following day.

Section 13 of CO 331 provides for the creation of a taskforce to be composed of the city mayor; the Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD); the chairman of the City Council committees on laws or social services; Philippine National Police; Commission on Human Rights; the presidents of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation, Liga ng mga Barangay and Parents Teachers Association Federation; and representatives from the educational and religious sectors and nongovernment organizations involved in family and children’s welfare./PN
