In Iloilo City Public drinking prohibited; No liquor sale beyond 6 p.m.

ILOILO City – Drinking liquor in public places is prohibited in this southern city.

Yesterday, Mayor Jerry Treñas issued Executive Order (EO) No. 153-D amending the restrictions on the consumption of liquor.

The latest directive likewise banned establishments from dispensing alcoholic beverages beyond 6 p.m. while the city is under general community quarantine.

“The consumption in public of any form of liquor or alcoholic beverages, or any alcoholic drink containing a specific percentage of alcohol by volume or weight which may be in form of whisky, brandy, gin, rum, cordial, liquor, cocktail, wine, champagne, vermouth, basi, tuba, saki, beer, ale, stout, and the like shall be absolutely prohibited, unless expressly lifted,” read part of Treñas’ EO.

Establishments, convenience stores, groceries, sari-sari stores, and other similar businesses that will violate the prohibition will be meted with appropriate penalties under the Iloilo City Tax Code.

Meanwhile, persons who knowingly break the protocol and endanger the lives of residents of Iloilo City shall face the appropriate administrative and/or criminal charges.

In cases of barangay lockdown, the sale and consumption of liquor will be absolutely prohibited in areas covered by stringent community quarantine.

In ordering such restrictions, Treñas acknowledged the need to set interventions that would contain the risks of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) transmission.

He cited a report from the City COVID Team which showed the metro having an average of 53 cases per day from Oct. 1 to 20./PN
