In Iloilo province it pays to reach 100 years old

ILOILO – Twenty-six residents of this province who reached the age of 100 would each receive P30,000 incentive from the provincial government.

The incentives would be released beginning this week, according to Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) chief Dr. Neneth Pador.

Three of the centenarians come from the 1st District, three from the 2nd District, 15 from the 3rd District, four from the 4th district, and one from the 5th District.

Among the 26 centenarians, three are the oldest at 105.  One is from the municipality of San Joaquin (1st District) while two are from Lambunao town (3rd District).

A provincial ordinance mandates the giving of P30,000 cash incentive to each resident of the province who has reached the age of 100.

The centenarian would also be getting a congratulatory letter from the provincial government and a plaque of recognition.

Pador said the 26 centenarians were the second batch to be released with the cash incentive. The first batch was recognized in October 2017.

Centenarians are required to present to their respective Municipal Social Officer their birth certificates, endorsements from mayors, barangay certificates attesting to their being a hundred years old, Office of Senior Citizen Affairs identification cards, and baptismal certificates.

The national government also has incentives for centenarians coursed through the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Under the Centenarians Act of 2016, a centenarian is entitled to a P100 thousand cash incentive from the national government and a letter of felicitation from the President of the country./PN
