ANTIQUE – To celebrate National Women’s Month, employees and officials of the local government unit (LGU) of San Jose de Buenavista, Antique, would be wearing purple every Friday, and on March 8.
Proclamation No. 227 series of 1998, provides for the observance of March as “Women’s Month,” and March 8 of every year as “International Women’s Day.”
According to the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), purple is globally recognized as the color of women, symbolizing justice and dignity.
On Feb. 28, Mayor Elmer Untaran issued Memorandum Order No. 048, series of 2023, on this.
“Pursuant to and in support of the 2023 National Women’s Month Celebration, the LGU of San Jose de Buenavista is enjoined to wear purple-colored shirts/dress every Friday for the month of March,” read part of the memo.
Meanwhile, the PCW said this year’s National Women’s Month Celebration also launches a new recurring theme from this year to 2028: “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.”
The recurring theme also aligns with the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028, which aims for “deep economic and social transformation to reinvigorate job creation and accelerate poverty reduction by steering the economy back on a high-growth path.”/PN
