ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is recruiting 200 new police officers this year.
“No endorsement from government agencies. No padrino system. We need qualified applicants,” said Police Colonel Luther Lugo, chief of the PRO-6’s Regional Recruitment and Selection Unit (RRSU).
The padrino system, or patronage in Filipino culture and politics, is the value system where one gains favor, promotion, or political appointment through family affiliation (nepotism) or friendship (cronyism), as opposed to one’s merit. This system is deemed a source of many controversies and corruption.
The PRO-6 has started accepting applications online via the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Registration Application System.
This is the first recruitment for the PNP’s regular force this year.
The following are the minimum qualifications an applicant must meet:
* citizen of the Philippines
* of good moral character
* height: at least five feet for female and 5 feet and 2 inches for male
* a graduate of a baccalaureate degree with corresponding eligibility
* between 21 to 30 years old
* not dishonorably discharged from military employment or dismissed for a cause from any civilian position in the government
* not convicted by final judgment of an offense / crime involving moral turpitude
* pass the psychiatric / psychological, drug and physical tests
Documents required for submission are the following:
* Philippine Statistics Authority-certified birth certificate
* transcript of records and diploma (duly authenticated by the school registrar)
* certificate of eligibility (duly authenticated by the issuing office)
* photocopy of two valid identification cards

The PRO-6 will be initially accepting around 300 applicants.
“Marami kasi hindi makapasa especially sa neuro test and physical test. So dapat may reserve tayo,” said Lugo.
The basic salary of a Police Officer 1 is now P29,668 a month.
