NEW YEARâS Eve is somewhat considered an âEssay Writing Dayâ or moment. Why? Because a lot of people post on social media sites their appreciation, experiences and resolutions in relation to the previous and upcoming years.
We canât blame them. Every individual has a story to tell and all are entitled to express what they feel and expect. It is a good way to share memorable moments and personal goals.
Well, I believe I am also entitled to share my own story. In my first article for this year as well as my 94th article since I went back to writing, I am writing something about what I do.
A few days ago, someone sent me an e-mail asking if she could pose a few questions regarding my profession. I said yes. I will be sharing some of the things I shared to her about my experiences in law school.
The life of a lawyer begins with the law school experience. On my first day in law school, I saw the diversity inside the classroom. My classmates and I came from different backgrounds with different reasons for being there. However, on that very first day, there was one thing we shared in common â that after five years (including Bar review months) we will become lawyers.
My daily survival in law school depended on how I approached challenges, withstood stressful and nerve-racking situations, and reasoned in a very rational and logical way.
In law school, my lawyer teachers taught us about the intricacies and complex nature of the law. They also taught us how to act and think like a lawyer. We were taught to think objectively and view both sides of the proposition. Honestly, itâs a talent if you can do both.
Our transformation into individuals who think and act like lawyers did not happen overnight. The process of learning this is somewhat fine-drawn. Even so, it has a deep effect on the way we think about the world around us.
Of course, to get the title one has to take the Bar exams. I read in a column a few months ago that the Bar is like a quest. It is like a marathon because it is a test of endurance, of will and determination, of persistence, of carefully chosen approaches and of individual talent. âAs in any running race, the effort to gain entry to the exclusive club of lawyers is backed by a coaching team â the law schools and their teachers â whose guidance the aspirant can hardly do without.â
Is it worth it? I would say it has been worth it. I cannot imagine doing anything other than working in the legal profession. In the past few months, I was able to provide life-changing help to my clients.
The resilience of a human being and its tendency to carry on has always amazed many people. These propensities are proofs by law graduates and lawyers that almost everything is worth it.
Every day is a celebration of success and how I made it through these past few years. Law school makes or breaks you. But there is so much to be thankful for.
