In the right places

SOMEONE has inspired me with his quotable lines lately like “…the often complicated and never linear process of healing” and “… finding consolation in unlikely corners.” Damn, they are good!

Hearing those extracts, one will wonder what sort of a man could have written these words. Is he so deep and soulful that his words ring with truth and authenticity? Is he an intellectual, a writer, a poet perhaps that he can combine both positive and negative words and still end up inspiring his reader?

I think that at any age, one should not cease from finding inspiration. Inspiration comes in many forms. It could be a human being, a book, a passion, an ambition, a song, a hobby, a movie genre, or anything that awakens your whole being and senses. While it is true that we lose inspiration from time to time, however, it is also our responsibility to seek something or someone to replace the lost spark.

We can’t just wait for inspiration to land on our laps. I remember the question my MBA Professor threw at me after the first defense of my Business Management Research (BMR) years back: “Belinda, when are you completing your BMR?” My reply, “I’m waiting for inspiration, Sir.” Professor Andy: “What inspiration are you waiting for? A lightning bolt?” It may sound funny, haha, but it drives home a point. Because for as long as we live, life will treat us harshly on several occasions and mind you, inspiration will play a significant role to enable us to bounce back and push forward!

I have been watching movies about writers for a couple of months now – I thoroughly search online, and boy, you cannot imagine the inspiration I get every time I finish a film! First, the words are just brilliantly, artfully, and wittingly crafted that you are inspired to become a great writer yourself! I often tell myself if I could only write like that! Second, the characters portrayed are quite eccentric conforming to the label that writers are odd, moody, and sometimes a recluse. But are they really?

Maybe they are just as genuine as they wish to be considering that their stories, their books, and their screenplays are the type that entertain us, bring us to a magical world, carry us to another universe, and the like.

The likes of C.S. Lewis – “Clive Staples Lewis, an Irish-born scholar, novelist, and author of about forty books whose works of greatest lasting fame may be ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, a series of seven children’s books that have become classics of fantasy literature”, J. D. Salinger – “thought at one time as the most important American writer to emerge since World War II but who eventually turned his back on success and adulation, famous for not wanting to be famous, lived in seclusion for more than fifty years, and whose most popular published work is ‘The Catcher in the Rye’,” and many others.

And speaking of inspiration, finally after two years of hiatus, the fishing industry is now in the thick of preparations for the upcoming 22nd National Tuna Congress and Trade Exhibit slated on Sept. 1-2, 2022, in General Santos City.

I had the pleasure of working with the fishing industry over the years and I must say I am happy about this development. The theme for this year’s Congress is “Braving Rough Seas Toward a Better Tomorrow.”

I want to thank my new friend, Ruth Fe “Umbeer” Garcia Balani, a servant of Healing Missionaries of the Holy Spirit, Davao City, for her beautiful illustration of me: “Your openness to anything, anyone, anywhere is a rare treasure. Not everyone is like you. I am learning from you. I believe God has appointed us to meet, and I am grateful that I volunteered to facilitate during the Healing Retreat in General Santos and was assigned to our group.” Umbeer works at Buhangin Medical Clinic and Diagnostic Center with Le Salon de Davao, as her entrepreneurial venture.

Millennial Thoughts

I think I was only twelve when I first attended a seminar with Ma’am Belinda. I was inspired by her passion to actively serve people and advocate women empowerment especially among the younger generation. Through her, I learned that you can be who you want to be if you just believe in yourself. So, if you ask me about my role model of a charismatic career mom, I’d always say it’s Belinda Sales Canlas. – Haizel Jean Anoche, Executive Director, Lifestyles International Holdings Corporation / Myintrasite.com/getbetterdaybyday
