BACOLOD City – A total of 130 families, composed of 1,028 individuals, from six local government units (LGUs) in Negros Occidental vacated their homes due to non-stop rains generated by a combination of shear line and low pressure area (LPA).
Provincial administrator, Atty. Rayfrando Diaz, said LGUs that ordered the evacuation of their residents due to either the threat of flashfloods or landslides were the cities of Bago, Cadiz, Sagay, San Carlos, and Talisay, and the town of Candoni.
He also confirmed that rains triggered landslides in Sagay, San Carlos and Talisay.
In Talisay City, at least one house was destroyed by a landslide in Barangay San Fernando.
In San Carlos City, landslides blocked the eco-translink highway connecting the city and the town of Don Salvador Benedicto, although Diaz said authorities were able to immediately clear the highway of large rocks and debris.
Sagay City, meanwhile, has yet to submit their official information of the reported landslide to the Negros Occidental Command Center as of press time.
The Provincial Disaster Management Program Division warned earlier this week that several landslides could take place in the province due to the incessant rains generated by the LPA./PN
