BACOLOD City – A fistfight broke out at the Bago City District Jail, killing one of the inmates, a police report showed.
The 34-year-old Rene Boy Alvarez of Barangay 4, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental sustained bruises all over his body, the report further stated.
Alvarez was was found unconscious around 2:46 a.m. on Jan. 18 and was brought to the Bago City Hospital where attending physician Dr. Marco Beñosa pronounced him dead.
Jail warden Senior Inspector Alexander Sy said Alvarez – who was charged with illegal possession of firearms and explosives, attempted murder and direct assault – engaged in a fistfight with other inmates in the prison cell a few minutes after he was transferred from the Himamaylan City District Jail.
Alvarez was previously detained at the Kabankalan City District Jail and Metro Bacolod District Jail-Special Intensive Care Area.
He was moved out from both jails because of his involvement in commotions.
An investigation is ongoing to identify the inmates responsible for Alvarez’s death./PN
