CAPIZ – This November, in celebration of the Provincial Environment Consciousness Month, the Capiz Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (CaPENRO) unveils the project “Palit-Basura and A-Seed-for-a Forest on Wheels.”

The CaPENRO mobile team went from one town to another to collect “ecobricks” – plastic drinking bottles packed with non-biodegradable waste to make a reusable building block – from residents in exchange for household essentials such as cooking oil, vinegar, soy sauce, and soap, among others.

Aside from eco-bricks, Capiznons are also encouraged to donate fruit-bearing tree seedlings in exchange for various merchandise such t-shirts, shirts, tumblers, fans, pens, pails, dippers, spaghetti packages, and many more.

According to Mon Alinsangan, section head of CaPENRO’s Information, Communication and Education, the project aims to minimize solid wastes in the province, especially plastic wastes, and help minimize the ill-effects of climate change and global warming.

This year’s Provincial Environment Consciousness Month celebration has the theme, “Reviving Capiz: Conserve, Protect and Restore.”

The project is also supported by the Capiz Provincial Police Office through its TSIP Makakalikasan Project./PN
