ILOILO City – They saw how Mayor Jerry Treñas “transformed and beautify the city” so they thought of doing something similar in their barangay.
The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Barangay Punong, Lapuz district, together with the Punonganons, brainstormed and eventually came up with the project “Instragramma Walls.”
The once bland alley stretching around 150 meters got a polychromatic makeover.
“Nakita namon ang pag-beautify ni Mayor Treñas sang aton city so we decided to do something similar in our barangay. Gin-consult namon ang mga barangay kagawad kag si Punong Barangay Titz Asturias kon paano namon i-come up ang ini nga project,” SK chairman Trisha Tomacruz told Panay News.
The vibrant transformation of the alley amounted to P1.2 million. The fund was sourced out from the village’s supplemental budget.
The project kicked off in January. Ilonggo artists were tapped.
It was around late February when the photos of the project went viral on social media ahead of the supposed March 12 inauguration.
From time to time, people not only from Iloilo City but from nearby Iloilo province and Guimaras Island are coming over for selfies and “groufies” for social media posting.

The “Instragramma Walls” also gained the attention of both local and national media, bloggers and vloggers.
Tomacruz said the original plan was to provide the residents of Punong a happy place to ease their boredom due to the coronavirus pandemic, but it turned out not only residents are benefitting from the good vibes of the picturesque walls.
The now colorful alley is complemented by lightings and closed-circuit television cameras.
Tomacruz said they have assigned compliance officers to make sure that visitors are following the minimum health protocols such as wearing of facemasks and social distancing./PN
