BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) urged the Department of Public Works and Highways’ (DPWH) Bacolod City District Engineering Office and the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) to install additional street lights and traffic signs along Araneta Avenue in this city to prevent road accidents.
Araneta Avenue is a vital road which connects the barangays Tangub, Pahanocoy and Sum-ag, and a vital access going to Bago City, Negros Occidental from this city.
The said area is densely populated, which requires proper road markings, street lights, and other early warning devices.
Councilor Claudio Jesus Puentevella said the SP passed a resolution urging the DPWH Bacolod and CEO to provide additional street lights and install traffic signs along the said area due to reported numerous fatal road accidents that had occurred therein.
Meanwhile, the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) has recorded 280 traffic accidents from January 1 to September 9 this year – 46.6 percent higher than last year’s 193.
Of the incidents, 186 were classified as reckless imprudence resulting to damage to property, physical injury (79), and homicide (16).
The report highlights a concerning rise in traffic-related incidents or reckless imprudence within the city when compared to the last year’s date logged in the same period: damage to property (105), physical injury (69), and homicide (19) logged in the same period last year./PN
