Instant silliness

GEORGE Mallory was asked why he climbed Mt. Everest, his reply was simple “Because it’s there” and unfortunately so was he for a long time till his body was found.

His camera that would have shown if he made the peak was never found but that is no longer a problem for some mountain climbers.

The Tanzanian government is installing high-speed internet at the top of Mount Kilimanjaro but why? There are some benefits in terms of safety on the climbs but the real reason is so that tourists can have their Instagram piece online immediately.

Has the human race lost their sense? The climb is a challenge to be met by the brave and strong and their reward is what they can see when they get there. There used to be “Kodak moments” that you have to wait weeks to have developed but now there is instant gratification for the climber and all of their “followers”.

Slow down, smell the roses, and sit down to appreciate nature’s beauty at the top or bottom of the mountains.

Walking
Decades ago, as a tourist I spent several days on the beautiful Yangtze River, China’s longest and largest river, then, but now I might have to walk its journey as a result of the drought there.

Millenia ago Jesus walked on water on the Sea of Galilee, “they behold Jesus walking on the sea” and I also sailed on it a few years ago but unless there is divine intervention I might be walking on the sea bed soon as it’s unlikely humans will be able to solve the climate change problems.

Anyone who tries to deny climate change should be struck down by lighting as they are denying reality and delaying the acceptance of the urgent need to solve our climate problems, that are shown by weather events which used to be once in a century becoming so frequent that are now just ‘normal’ events.

Spread the word, especially to politicians, that we need solutions and maybe do pray for Divine intervention as it might be the only option.

Playing dress ups for real
The cost of living has gone up it appears and despite not being an expert on the cost of women’s clothes it would seem that Meghan Markle’s probably one use £2400 outfit is ridiculously expensive. I am certain my complete wardrobe including a suit would not cost that much.

We are being told that beauty is an inner quality, and we should be aware of the rest of the world and how they live. I am sure this amount of money would keep a person well fed, if not a family in many countries and although one donation of £2000 and a £400 outfit would not change the world every bit helps.

Perhaps it is time that Meghan and Harry read ‘The Prince and the Pauper’ by Mark Twain and considered the lessons that it contains. (dfitzger@melbpc.org.au)/PN
