MALAY, Aklan – Inter-island trips to Boracay Island from Caticlan remained normal, the Philippine Coast Guard Caticlan Office said.
Trips of all vessels from Batangas, Romblon, and Mindoro are also available for the Holy Week season.
PCG-Caticlan Senior Petty Officer Dominador Salvino said no typhoon signal is hoisted in the area of responsibility as tropical storm āAgatonā battered Visayas and Mindanao with torrential rains.
āWe are monitoring āAgatonā 24/7, while the operations of inter-Island vessels are still normal,ā Salvino said.
Sea sports activities and island hopping on Boracay Island, however, are canceled.
As of April 12, the Philippine Coast Guard monitored more than 22,000 outbound passengers and 21,000 inbound passengers in all ports nationwide.
It also deployed 2,199 personnel in 15 PCG districts and inspected a total of 335 vessels and 488 motorbancas.
Coast Guard is on Lenten season alert to ensure the safety and security of passengers and tourists. Boracay Island is also bracing for the heavy influx of visitors during Holy Week, despite the inclement weather.
Salvino said hordes of tourists are arriving at Caticlan port to spend the Semana Santa in the prime tourist destination./PN
