ILOILO City – The city government’s Internal Audit Service (IAS) office is expected to boost the drive of the current administration against graft and corruption.

IAS chief Atty. Mary Joan Montaño’s appointment was confirmed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) on Tuesday.

She said IAS had  a mandated from Republic Act 3456 or the Internal Audit Code of the Philippines.

“The office is more comprehensive and covers processes, management control, human resource, and other aspect of governance,” she explained, adding that it was an integral part of the local government.

IAS would be looking into how timely documents were processed although it doesn’t necessarily mean that all documents would pass her office.

She added that the IAS office was created to lessen the audit observation memorandums issued by the Commission on Audit during the auditing process. (PNA/PN)
