ILOILO City – A total of 41 international investors have toured Western Visayas as part of the Philippine Travel Exchange (PHITEX) Post Tour of the Tourism Promotions Board and the Department of Tourism (DOT).

The PHITEX tour will end today. It started on Aug. 31.

It was conducted in coordination with the local governments of Iloilo, Guimaras and Negros Occidental.

PHITEX is a government-organized travel trade event. It hosts international buyers to participate in tabletop business appointments with accredited Philippine tourism suppliers.

“It’s always a pleasure for DOT Region 6 to showcase to these international buyers the tourist destinations of Region 6, but having a positive feedback from them is so overwhelming,” said Tourism regional director Helen Catalbas.

Among the destinations that the investors visited are island province of Guimaras, Garin Farm in San Joaquin, Iloilo, and Miag-ao Church.

They also toured the Hispanic mansions and old ancestral houses in Iloilo City.

“They are currently touring the multitude of attractions and activities in Negros Occidental,” Catalbas said.

Among their destinations there are The Ruins, Locsin Ancestral House, Balay ni Tana Dicang, and San Diego Cathedral.

“We want to preserve these tourist attractions for the future generations and for more tourists to enjoy,” Catalbas stressed, adding that the local government units and the private sector in Western Visayas are “doing their best to further develop and sustain the tourism industry” in the region.
