BACOLOD City – Three rondalla groups, including two from outside the country, performed at the Bacolod City Government Center on Nov. 9, as part of the 5th International Rondalla/ Plucked String Music Festival held in Silay City from Nov. 3 to 11.
The groups were the Taiwan Bamboo Orchestra and Taipei Guzheng Ensemble from Taiwan, Art Company Dalmoon from South Korea, and the Mauban Community Rondalla from Quezon, Philippines.
They are among the 21 groups participating in the ongoing music festival in Silay City, with the theme, “Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa (Strings of Unity).”

Mayor Evelio Leonardia thanked Silay Mayor Mark Golez for bringing the some of the rondalla performers to the Government Center. He also thanked the three groups for delighting the audience with their impressive performances.
“Cuerdas sang Paghiliusa is a fitting example of how people from different places in the world can be united through the beauty of music,” Ang said.
Watching the show were city employees and students from different elementary and high schools, namely, Rizal Elementary School, Andres Bonifacio Elementary School I, Bata Elementary School I, Domingo Lacson National High School, St. Scholastica’s Academy, Negros Occidental High School and Mandalagan National High School.
Jerry Sibal, founder of the renowned Jerry Sibal Design of New York City, also witnessed the performances. Sibal is one of the speakers at the MICECON 2018 on Nov. 27 to 29, and he visited Bacolod for an ocular inspection of the conference venues.
Meanwhile, Leonardia also announced that he has invited the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra to perform in Bacolod City next year on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1, 2018./PN
