MANILA – Two lady senators – Pia Cayetano and Nancy Binay – are upset over reality television show, Pinoy Big Brother (PBB) All-in-Edition’s nude painting challenge.

The nude challenge, televised on national television on June 4, was “unwarranted” and “tantamount to coercion,” said Cayetano.

Cayetano, chair of the Senate committee on women, family relations and gender relations, asked PBB producers to give a public explanation and apologize because “they crossed the line.”

She also reminded them to “know the limits” when they give the housemates tasks to fulfill.

“There is nothing wrong about women who pose nude for art, as long as the decision is voluntary,” the lady lawmaker said.

But she explained that the PBB episode violated the Magna Carta of Women because housemate “Jayme Jalandoni was under pressure to follow the instructions of Kuya.”

The bargaining between Jalandoni and Kuya also happened on national television, Cayetano further said.

Binay, on the other hand, urged the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) to investigate the “inappropriate” task.

MTRCB should review the PBB rule book, according to Binay.

She said the challenge clearly disregarded the rights and dignity of their female housemates.

“PBB’s nude challenge to the housemates was not to test one’s character; rather, it was an irresponsible and insensitive act bordering on blackmail,” the senator from Makati City pointed out.

Jalandoni initially agreed to pose nude for the challenge.

She, however, backed out upon Kuya’s instruction to choose three more housemates to join her in the task./PN
