ILOILO City – Some 25 indigenous peoples (IPs) of Brgy. Oyang, Manica, and Dalagsaan of Libacao, Aklan are set to be given support for farm production under the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Kabuhayan at Kaunlaran ng Kababayang Katutubo (4Ks) program.
The IPs participated in the validation and workshop for Ancestral Domain Sustainable Development and Protection Plan (ADSDPP) for agriculture in Libacao recently as a requirement in the 4Ks implementation program.
The program aims to uplift the lives of the country’s IP communities from poverty by providing them farm production inputs and livelihood support. It is a special program of the DA in partnership with the National Commission of Indigenous People and local government units.
“The community will come up with a five-year plan on sustainable management and development of their land and natural resources for inclusion in the ADSDPP,” said program focal person Carmelita Fantilanan.
The three IP communities involved in the recent planning activity proposed projects such as cattle and carabao raising, farm machinery, and irrigation facilities.
IPs in Brgy. Oyang will be trained on cattle raising and will receive 20 heads of cattle this year. Once the project becomes sustainable, they shall turn roll-over the stocks to the next-in-line tribe beneficiaries.DA-RAFIS6/PN
