ILOILO City – Fifty-eight wanted persons were arrested in a massive two-day operation of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
According to the IPPO’s Police Operations Management Unit, the fugitives were apprehended from May 24 to 25, and four of them were classified as “top most wanted”.
The Ajuy police station made the highest number of arrests with six, while the Estancia police station had five and Barotac Viejo police station had four.
Thirty-five firearms with ammunitions were also recovered.
The town of San Joaquin had the highest number of surrendered firearms – 21.
“Our police are doing well even if they are busy implementing quarantine protocols in their areas of responsibility. We are intensifying our campaign against loose firearms and wanted persons. We want to zero in on them to prevent crimes. Election is fast approaching,” said Police Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Gorero, IPPO director.
These wanted persons might form gun-for-hire or robbery groups, he explained, thus the IPPO must continue hunting them.
Gorero is hoping more wanted persons will be arrested and more loose firearms surrendered or seized in line with the “Birada Semana” program which focuses on wanted persons, loose firearms, illegal drugs and illegal gambling.
“We will not lower our guard against these wanted persons and those illegally possessing firearms,” he stressed./PN
