ILOILO – The Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO) is ready to help enforce border control in the African swine fever-hit town of Oton to ensure that live swine and pork by-products cannot go in and out.

IPPO director Police Colonel Noel Aliño went to Oton to meet with various government agencies regarding ASF containment there.

According to Aliño, not only the Oton Municipal Police Station (MPS) is preparing but the entire province.

“Hindi lang kami dito sa Oton nagre-ready. Na-task ko na rin po ang mga LGU (Local government unit), at lahat po ay nag-comply. Nag-meeting-meeting na po sila noong Saturday at Sunday, may mga reports na pong dumating dito at lahat po sila naka-ready,” Aliño said.

He also tasked the police chiefs to coordinate with the LGU. They had meetings over the weekend, and received reports that they would also help and are ready to be deployed.

Yesterday, Aliño, together with Deputy Provincial Director for Operation, Police Lieutenant Colonel Nerito Lobrido, and Provincial Management Unit chief, Police Major Jonah Galicha, had a courtesy call with Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. regarding the ASF issue.

Defensor discussed some of the measures to prevent ASF from spreading.

The governor also pointed out to Aliño that the provincial Civil Defense Operations Center (OpCen) is monitoring the province./PN
