WE’LL TALK about an obsolete and irrelevant ideology still embraced and espoused by obsolete and irrelevant geriatrics and trendy social climbing naïve wokes a.k.a. “useful idiots”.
Of course, we’re talking about communism, the ideology and form of government, not the romantic fantasy of the ageing pseudo communist-professors in the University of the Philippines
Fifty years ago if you’re a leftist, anti-Marcos, anti-martial law and shouting “democracy is dead” and “bring back press freedom” you’re a naive, impressionable but idealistic youth out to change the world.
Today, if you’re still a leftist, anti-Marcos, anti-martial law and shouting “democracy is dead” and “defend press freedom” you’re just a stupid idiot.
The so-called communist ideology has become as irrelevant and obsolete as say “double-knit” bell- bottoms trousers whose hems sweep the floor, body fit polyester shirts together with platform shoes, disco music, and Madonna.
The communist ideology is not only irrelevant and obsolete but downright baduy just like the 1970s’ “Edgar Mortiz and Vilma Santos” or “Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz” box office love teams.
The Communist Manifesto is an 1848 political pamphlet by German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels. It was the answer to the Industrial Revolution then sweeping Europe, particularly England, where factories with almost sub-human conditions were manned by exploited workers, including women and children.
Take note that the conditions then were ideal for it but totally different now.
The communist movement embraced by Vladimir Lenin in Russia and Mao Zedong in China was successful in the sense that both countries became communist.
During the ‘70s, emulating these communist stalwarts, Joma Sison, with ambitions to turn the Philippines into another communist state, used the Maoist and Leninist model of peasant armed struggle as an uprising surrounding the cities from the countryside as the “red area” (NPA) and urban insurrection in the cities, inciting workers, laborers, and unions to rise up against the government as “white area” (NDF). These strategies eventually became the CPP/NPA/NDF.
“Brilliant” only in the figment of Joma Sison’s imagination. It failed miserably.
After decades of being communist the Russians eventually realized that being a communist country is obsolete, irrelevant and most of all not profitable.
Russia is now one of the biggest if not the biggest capitalist country in the world. And what about China? Well they are now the biggest trading partner of that hated capitalist country, the United States of America.
The funny thing is that both former bastions of communism embraced capitalism including all the trappings of a decadent capitalist way of life, sometimes event outdoing the American capitalist.
Meanwhile in the Netherlands, Joma Sison, CCP/NPA/NDF founder, died still dreaming of the “withering away of the state”, that they will turn the Philippines into a workers’ utopian paradise.
At least during his time there he enjoyed the decadence of capitalism in the Netherlands partying like Austin Powers. In the meantime, the poor NPA recruits and cadres in the hinterlands still dreaming of the “withering away of the state” are withering away from hunger and disease.
From 89 fronts the CPP/NPA/NDF is now down to 24 fronts with 19 on the verge of collapsing. The new UP president Angelo Jimenez is a moderate with no red knickers, meaning the CPP/NPA/NDF will lose their biggest source of “useful idiots” and their last bastion to stage “white operations” to support the “red operations” or armed operations of the CPP/NPA/NDF.
Not to mention the fact that everyday hundreds of these so-called NPA fighters are coming to their senses and surrendering to the government.
The more than 50-year-old insurgency started by Joma Sison is now on the final throes of “withering away” like him, together with the remaining delusional geriatric revolutionaries.
