BACOLOD City – The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) Region 6 and the Negros Occidental Irrigation Management Office held the Irrigators Associations Congress and Farmers Forum for the Bago River Irrigation System and Communal Irrigation System, at the Manuel Y. Torres Memorial Coliseum and Cultural Center in Bago City on Tuesday, January 7.
The event aimed to establish a unified approach to addressing challenges in the agricultural sector, ensuring food security and promoting the well-being of farmers and their communities.
Irrigators associations and farmers from various cities and municipalities of the province attended the congress.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson commended Negrense farmers for their continued productivity and resilience despite the challenges posed by El Niño last year.
He emphasized that irrigation systems are lifelines for farmers, sustaining food security, fostering sustainable growth, and serving as investments for future generations.
The governor also encouraged farmers and relevant government agencies to continue exploring new technologies and adopting climate-resilient irrigation systems.
Outstanding irrigation associations in the province were also recognized during the activity./PN
