MANILA – The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Monday urged consumers to check the authenticity of bills they receive as cash spending accelerates during the holiday season.
Consumers can check the security features of Philippine banknotes through the “feel-look-tilt” method, the BSP said in an advisory.
The official paper used in Philippine banknotes is rough to the touch because of the material used and the embossed prints, the statement said.
The embossed prints, watermark, security fibers, asymmetric serial numbers and see-through marks on the bills can be seen by the naked eye, the BSP said.
Meanwhile, the concealed value becomes visible when the banknote is rotated 45 degrees and tilted down. The security thread in the P20 and P50 bills can be seen from either side of the note when viewed against the light, the BSP said.
For higher denominations, the BSP said the “windowed” security thread, optically variable patch (for P500 and P1,000 bills) and optically variable ink (for P1,000 bills) change colors when viewed at different angles.
“Individuals who come across banknotes that have doubtful or unusual features are encouraged to present said notes to any BSP Office,” the statement said. (ABS-CBN News)
