THE Iloilo State College of Fisheries – Barotac Nuevo Campus (ISCOF-BNC) received a P15 million grant from the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Manila for funding a project “Upgrading of the College Hotel as Training Facility for Hospitality Restaurant Management (HRM) and Hospitality Management (HM) students.”
The CHED grant will help fund the acquisition of the laboratory amenities, facilities, and equipment of the College of Hospitality Management, and have the opportunity to expand current laboratory, state-of-the-art equipment, and facilities and enhance program quality of teaching and learning.
“We are pleased to be among one of the State Universities to receive the grant, and we are also very thankful to CHED through the leadership of Chairperson J. Prospero “Popoy” De Vera for this big help and their continued support to our college,” SUC president II, Dr. Godelyn Hisole, said in a statement.
The SUC president recognized the urgent need for state-of-the-art facilities and equipment by the hospitality management students.”
“This funding will help us meet a very important students’ needs the essential laboratory equipment and facilities which will help create the heart of the experiential learning,” Dr. Hisole added.
With the development of technologies in the field of hospitality management, this CHED funding ensures that students can gain hands-on skills and training, and experiences with updated equipment and facilities.
The project’s rationale is a step towards the College’s thrust of producing industry-based standards. Aside from the quality education that is at par with the bests in the country, the project will be used for research-based extension and production or revenue generation, in line with the SDGs on Quality Education, No Poverty, and Zero Hunger, and with the regional Development Plan of Region 6 on Tourism and Poverty Alleviation.
By having this state-of-the-art laboratory equipment, the CHM can realize these thrusts as the laboratory can be utilized for research, training, revenue generation for the college, and curriculum and instruction, which will allow learners to interact directly with the information by getting a first-hand learning experience and performing laboratory assignments. This will also assist teachers in delivering instructions effectively and competitively.
The grant was made possible in response to the proposed project headed by the SUC President II, Dr. Godelyn Hisole, with the campus administrator of ISCOF-BN, Dr. Emelyn Ligasan, dean of the College of Hospitality Management, Dr. Ricardo Paborada Jr., and the project coordinator/laboratory in-charge, Instructor Roscelle Eludo, with the help of Dr. Liza Belandres, vice president for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Gladys Belicena as vice president for Administration.
The said grant was credited to the college fund, and the institution hopes to start the procurement this quarter./PN
