ISSA Meet: Santa Clarita vs Sun Yat Sen in caging semis

MANILA – Santa Clarita International School Primes and Sun Yat Sen High School Blue Lions advance to the semifinals of ISSA Meet secondary boys basketball with separate wins at the Western Institute of Technology Gym in Iloilo City.

Primes continued its winning run as it scored a 63-57 stunner over CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights on Wednesday. Kim Rey Servano top-scored with 21 points while Franc Steven Tono added 10 markers for the Primes.

Primes head coach Rodel Camacho told Panay News he was delighted with his team reaching the semifinals of Category A despite them battling all the way from Category B.

“Unti-unti nang nakukuha ng mga bata ang system at chemistry with their teammates,” Camacho said. “I am happy at nakaabot kami ng semifinals especially nanggaling kami sa Category B. Hopefully lang makapagtuloy-tuloy kami hanggang sa finals.”

Blue Lions, meanwhile, snagged the other semifinals seat on Wednesday after a 99-86 domination over Ateneo de Iloilo Blue Dragons. Jan Christian Teves connected seven triples to finish with 32 points, while Francis Jeff Badoles added 16 markers.

The secondary boys semifinals is slated today with top-seed and defending champions Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix facing Blue Lions. No. 2 seed St. Robert’s International Academy Panda Rockets, on the other hand, battles the Primes.

For finishing the elimination round unbeaten, the Red Phoenix will be having a twice-to-beat advantage against Blue Lions.

The Final Four matchup between Panda Rockets and Primes is a knockout affair.

If ever Blue Lions beats Red Phoenix, Game 2 of the series will be on Monday. But if both series end today, the best-of-three championship series will immediately start on Monday./PN
