It’s time for a vacation!

SPAIN recently eased its restrictions of travel between communities. So naturally, people are flocking to make up for the lost vacation time last year.

I haven’t been so enthusiastic about travel yet, not only because I enjoy relaxing at home more, but also because I still feel concerned about COVID.

The virus hasn’t disappeared; it’s still among us. One of the grades in my school had half the students quarantined because one of them tested positive. The vaccine rollout here is also far from stellar. Perhaps this is all happening too soon and too quickly?

Then again, people can’t hide in horror from the virus forever. This step forward is inevitable, especially since everyone is hungry to have life “back to normal.”

The strict lockdowns have also affected the tourism industry to the point of becoming bankrupt. This easing of travel restrictions will help businesses recover their income.

It’s not only here in Spain that people have become lax; when I see my friend’s social media accounts back home, I see many of them going on vacation in some scenic beach or instagrammable resort.

When you see the posts about our health workers giving their 110 percent trying to keep us all safe or hear news about someone you know who passed away because of complications from the virus, you would think that people would take the trips a little slow.

However, like I previously stated, we can’t expect everyone to hide from the virus forever. Maybe there are safe ways to enjoy a trip while keeping safe from COVID. Here, for example, some regions with several cases don’t allow people to enter, or they still have strict protocols and curfews.

Alas, though, there will always be people who will deviate from these rules. Even during the height of the pandemic, some would force their way, even if it meant hurting others. How much more now that people are becoming lax with the situation?

From what I see, it will take some time for this pandemic to die down to a rate that doesn’t seem threatening. People love to live on the edge though, no stupid virus is gonna stop them from having fun! Y.O.L.O!

It’s this attitude that will keep the pandemic dragging on for another year or two./PN
