ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD) and K-9 Unit recently received two male puppies it would be raising and training to become Explosive Detection Dogs (EDD).
Mayor Jerry Treñas said the Jack Russel Terrier puppies would be useful to police operations, particularly in the detection of bombs and firearms.
The Jack Russell Terrier is a small terrier that has its origins in fox hunting in England. This is an energetic breed that relies on a high level of exercise and stimulation.
Described as sturdy, tough and tenacious, the Jack Russell Terrier tends to be extremely intelligent, athletic, fearless, and vocal.
ICPO director Police Colonel Uldarico Garbanzos and EOD chief Police Major Garry Nee Tungala received the Jack Russel puppies.
When fully trained, the dogs are expected to enhance the operational capability of the ICPO in the maintenance of peace and order.
“The men and women of the ICPO are very grateful to the beloved mayor and the entire city government for being supportive at all times to the police in terms of its
anti-criminality campaign,” ICPO posted on its official Facebook page./PN
