Jail visitations may resume soon

ILOILO City – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is preparing for the gradual resumption of visitations for persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) once Western Visayas downgrades to Alert Level 1.

According to Chief Inspector Jairus Anthony Dogelio, spokesperson of BJMP Region 6, jail facilities in the region are already preparing for no-contact visitations.

“This is good news to the inmates. Makita na nila ang ila himata sa sulod sang halos duha ka tuig,” Dogelio said. “Pero dapat gihapon sundon ang mga health protocols (against coronavirus disease 2019).”

Western Visayas is currently under Alert Level 2.

According to Dogelio, every jail facility has a designated area for visitation, and there should be a plastic barrier between the inmate and the visitor.

Only those fully vaccinated against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) will be allowed to visit inmates, said Dogelio.

They must present their vaccination cards and valid identification cards.

There is a scheduled time and date for visits to avoid long lines and for easier crowd management, Dogelio added.

Children are not allowed to visit except perhaps those vaccinated against COVID-19, Dogelio added.

Due to the COVID-9 pandemic, BJMP introduced the “Electronic Dalaw” (virtual visit) program on March 2020 to provide great relief to PDLs to communicate with their families./PN
