MANILA – Jarvey Gayoso is returning to the Azkals Development Team (ADT) ahead of the 2021 Philippines Football League season after a brief stint with the Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo.
This follows the recent confirmation by the Iloilo City-based football squad of the former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles standout’s departure for the national developmental squad.
“It was a short but memorable time!” Kaya-Iloilo wrote on its Instagram account. “Salamat Jarvey Gayoso, best of luck with your return to the Azkals Development Team.”
Kaya-Iloilo acquired Gayoso to bolster its campaign in the 2021 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League last June after his stint with the Azkals in the 2022 International Federation of Association Football World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
Gayoso mainly played as a substitute for the Azkals and Kaya-Iloilo, making brief appearances in a few games but failing to score for either team.
The booter’s move to Kaya-Iloilo surprised Filipino football fans after it was rumored earlier this year that he had signed with Muangthong United in the Thailand league.
Gayoso, a rising star in Philippine football, was a key player for ADT, which finished third in the Philippine Football League last year.
In a related development, United City Football Club, the defending PFL champions, confirmed the departure of defender Miggy Clarino after a year with the team.
“The club would like to thank you for your contributions in winning the last PFL title and your participation in the AFC Champions League matches. All the best & be safe always!” United City said of Clarino.
Clarino joined the squad last year after deciding to forego his remaining years of eligibility with the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s football./PN
