BACOLOD City — Jast Enterprises defeated Sweet Crystal, 98-91, giving the latter its first loss in the ongoing Fil-Sino All Asian Countertrade, Inc. 1st Conference Inter-Company Basketball Tournament at Po Hang Gym of Bacolod Tay Tung High School.
Earlier, JSY Transport also defeated Huminova Tigers, 79-72, making its mark in the payoff quarter for the win.
Sweet Crystal started the Tuesday game with a 31-17 lead through Carl John Oquindo and Atty. Jubert Katalbas, who combined for 22 points.
But Jast Enterprises came back in the second quarter to take the half, 45-40, with Jolly Castillo and Beejay Paredes hitting six points apiece.
Jast pulled away with a 79-58 advantage by the end of the third quarter.
Sweet tried to rally behind Nico Lopingco and Oquindo but fell short to catch up with Jast.
Dy finished with 22 points; Uy added 18; Paredes scored 14; Joel Masadia gave 10; Dicky Equipaje and Castillo hit nine each; and Derek Sibug had six.
Lopingco knocked down eight treys to finish with 32 points; Oquindo added 28; Katalbas, 16; Toffel Tan, six; and Mark Yu, five.
It was a see-saw action between Huminova Tigers and JSY Transport. The Tigers took the opening quarter, 17-14, with RB Chua scoring 11 points, but the lead shifted to JSY Transport, taking the half, 40-34.
The Tigers regained the lead by a hairline, 57-56, in the third quarter, but JSY Transport had more air left as they prove steadier in the clutch.
Ryan Alegario paced with 21 points for the Transport; Carlo Chu and Chibun Uy delivered 14 each; Julius Teruel shot 10, while Arvin Chua and Joseph Tiu hit eight apiece.
RB Chua led the Tigers with 21; Villanueva added 12; Roger Montalbo, 11; Jan Jan Lopue hit seven, while Rey Jara scored six.
In Monday’s games, Basecom defeated AACI Transport, 111-92, even as AACI Trading ripped JSY Countertrade, 100-76.
AACI Transport (1-2 win-loss cards) could not keep up offensively with Basecom, as the latter delivered more than 30 points in three quarters for its second victory in three starts.
Basecom led, 30-14, in the opening quarter, but he disappeared as AACI Transport crawled back to cut the deficit, 49-48, at the half.
RJ Iligan lead Basecom with 24 points; Ervin Tan and Dr. Emil Guanzon added 20 each; Ritchie Militante shot 14; Popoy Chua, 12; Richard Co, 10; and Biboy Uysang, nine.
Mark Binguan and Pao Pao Lim finished with 34 and 33 points respectively; Dr. Chico Coruña contributed 10; and Tubby Villanueva, nine.
In the second game, AACI Trading posted its second win in four games pulled away in the second and third quarter after a slim 18-17 opening quarter lead to beat JSY Countertrade.
Robbie Jalandoon paced Trading with 27 points; Brian Coo added 18; Luigi Coo, 13; Bren Tajonera, 12; Andrei Tan, 11; and Danny Boy Uy, eight.
Countertrade was spearheaded by Jappy Cuaycong with 23 points; Michael Ang added 17; Junean Bermudez, 16; and Simon Tan, six./PN
