ILOILO City – While wishing for sustained growth and development for the city, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog expressed confidence that the local government will eventually win the “war” against illegal drugs.
After the “good but challenging” 2016, Mabilog hopes the metro’s economic progress continues this year.
“Ginalauman naton nga ma-maintain kag ma-sustain ang momentum sang growth and development sa Iloilo City,” he said.
According to Mabilog, all the characteristics of a business-friendly city are in Iloilo.
He said the city is also making headway in the campaign against crime and corruption, and most especially against illegal drugs.
Citing reports from the local police, Mabilog said most of the big names in illegal drugs were already neutralized.
Melvin “Boyet” Odicta Sr., suspected leader of the Odicta drug group, was killed. Police Station 1’s No. 2 drug suspect Jesus “Jing-jing” Espinosa Jr. was detained in Pototan, Iloilo, while Richard Prevendido, alleged Prevendido group leader, remains at large as of this writing.
Right now the Iloilo City Police Office and other law enforcement units continue to run after remaining drug personalities, said Mabilog.
“Sa dedication sang aton mga (law) enforcement agencies, sa suporta sang city government in terms of logistics kag financial needs, kag sa cooperation sang aton mga barangays, I’m quite sure mangin madinalag-on ang kampanya sang aton pungsod against criminalities, especially illegal drugs,” he said.
All barangays have submitted their respective Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council reports, said the mayor.
For village officials allegedly involved in illegal drugs, Mabilog said, “Kon ara ngalan nila (sa drug watch list), istoryahon nila ang natungdan, ang PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency) kag ang PNP (Philippine National Police), kag mangkuton kon ano ang mga paagi nga ma-clear ang ila mga pangalan.”
Meanwhile Mabilog wished Ilonggos a happy and prosperous New Year.
Lives must be anchored on faith in God, Mabilog said. “Making Christ the foundation of our lives will lead us to progress, peace and prosperity.”
“Kabay nga padayon ang aton pagbinuligay, suportahanay, panglakaton ululopod para sa isa ka ciudad, pamilya kag isa ka Ginoo,” he said./PN
