ILOILO City – A passenger jeepney crashed against an electric post in Barangay Rombang, Belison, Antique yesterday. Three persons died; 11 others were injured.
The accident happened at around 10 a.m. The jeepney was headed to the town of San Jose, said Lieutenant Colonel Haide Sobreno, Belison police chief.
The casualties were Glenn Adenic, 46, of San Mateo, Rizal; Jay Marvin Leona, 27, of Bugasong, Antique; and Elma Lorenzo, also of Bugasong.
Adenic and Leona died instantly while Lorenzo died while being treated at the Angel Salazar Memorial General Hospital in San Jose.
The 11 injured passengers were taken to that hospital, too.
Glenn Leona was driving the jeepney. Police said he avoid hitting a motorcycle running in the opposite direction but lost control of the jeepney.
“The driver was probably driving very fast,” said Sobreno.
Glenn was injured, too. As of this writing he was under hospital arrest.
He faces a charge of reckless imprudence resulting to three counts of homicide and multiple frustrated homicide./PN
