MANILA – The Philippine Air Force Jet Spikers kept its Final Four hopes alive with a 25-11, 25-19, 25-8 win over the Philippine Coast Guard Lady Dolphins in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Reinforced Conference at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Mary Ann Pantino led the way with 10 points for the Open Conference runner-up Jet Spikers, which snapped its two-game losing skid to move up to a 2-3 win-loss slate in the standings.
Aklanon Dell Palomata added eight markers, on seven attacks, while Jennifer Manzano and Judy Ann Caballejo added six points apiece for the Jet Spikers, which is one of the teams that opted not to tap a foreign reinforcement in the conference.
With the victory, the Jet Spikers forged a three-way tie at sixth place with the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons and the Laoag Power Smashers.
For the Jet Spikers to earn at least a playoff for the Final Four spot, it has to sweep its last two assignments against the Lady Maroons and the Bureau of Customs Transformers.
Also, the Jasper Jimenez-mentored Jet Spikers should hope that the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors, Bali Pure Water Defenders, Power Smashers, and the Lady Maroons fail to reach four wins.
“Unlike in our losses, we played as a team,” said the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod mainstay Palomata. “We’ll just have to play with more confidence and improve on our communication in our last two games.”
The Jet Spikers imposed it’s might on the net while taking advantage of the poor reception and floor defense of Lady Dolphins to score a straight-set victory in just an hour.
Grenlen Malapit had five points while Samantha Dawson and Hazel Mea made four and three markers, respectively, for the Lady Dolphins, which was booted out of contention with its 0-5 record./PN
