ILOILO City – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6 hopes to finish constructing the Jibao-an flyover in Barangay Jibao-an, Mandurriao district before this year is over.
The DPWH central office allotted an additional P100 million for the project.
“Ang good news sa Jibao-an kay may ara na sia pundo for 2023 to complete the flyover,” said DPWH assistant regional director Jose Al Fruto.
The Jibao-an flyover has a total budget of P591.2 million, explained Fruto, adding that funds were downloaded from the DPWH central office to the regional office in progressive increments.
The 240-meter flyover, comprising six 40-meter-long spans, has two lanes. Construction began in the last quarter of 2019.
It is being undertaken by the Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO) under DPWH-6.
The project contractor is the International Builders Corporation, which also worked on the Ungka flyover in Barangay Ungka II and the Aganan flyover in Aganan, both in Pavia town.
Fruto said the flyover will alleviate traffic in the area, which is a convergence zone for motorists from Pavia and San Miguel towns and Mandurriao district, once it is opened to the public.
Last week, he also confirmed that the Buhang flyover in Barangay Buhang, Jaro district, will open in March.
Buhang flyover has two lanes with a length of 340 linear meters and a width of 10.34 meters. It was also implemented by the ICDEO under DPWH-6, while the project contractor was F. Gurrea Construction Inc.
According to Fruto, the DPWH central office budgeted more than P300 million for the flyover’s completion.
Construction began in late 2019 and is supposed to be completed by the end of 2022. However, due to several weather disturbances that hit the region throughout the period, the contractor had difficulty sourcing quarry materials./PN
