ILOILO – Motorists will be able to use the Jibao-an flyover in Barangay Jibao-an, Mandurriao, Iloilo City by the end of this year.
Engineer Jose Al Fruto, assistant regional director of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Region 6, said project contractor International Builders Corporation (IBC) began working on the flyover’s approaches in April.
“Ka-start na ina sang April. And I think [completion] target nila is December, and it can be usable already,” Fruto told Panay News on Friday, June 2.
He explained that the flyover’s approach was included in the P100-million budget downloaded by the DPWH central office for the Jibao-an flyover.
Fruto said some civil works under the flyover are also being started, particularly the road widening and installation of drainage near the Vistal Mall area.
The flyover’s construction is on track with its approaches, road widening, and installation of lights as the only remaining works, he said.
However, Fruto admitted the road widening may not be completed by the end of this year; the Iloilo City District Engineering Office (ICDEO) will still be requesting additional funds from the 2024 budget.
The Jibao-an flyover has a total budget of P591.2 million, but the DPWH central office downloaded the funds to the regional office in progressive increments.
The 240-meter flyover, comprising six 40-meter-long spans, has two lanes. Construction began in the last quarter of 2019.
Once it is opened to the public, the flyover aims to ease traffic congestion in the area, which is a convergence zone for motorists from Pavia and San Miguel towns and Mandurriao district./PN
