JM Bales shares struggles in his journey to stardom

AT a young age, he knew he was drawn to music. “Music runs in our blood” that’s what Jose Mari “JM” Bales, an Ilonggo singer/songwriter said. As a child of a singer and a product of a family who loves music, JM startled everyone with his early inclinations to music. Only three years old, he surprised his father with his ability to memorize a song, and sing to the tune of it. With these beginnings, he officially started his journey to become a singer by joining amateur singing contests at the age of seven.

The 27-year-old singer of Brgy. Acuit, Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo never grew tired of fulfilling his dreams. Behind those enigmatic smiles and charismatic stares in front of camera, JM was once a working student, who struggled a lot to support his education during college. He told Panay News that he worked the busy, tiresome, and stressful life of a fast-food staff. With him was his mountain bike, which served as his companion in going to work and school.

As the years went by, the Ilonggo dreamer had the courage to try his luck by joining “Wish 107.5”. One thing led another and he was given a chance to represent Iloilo in the contest. Like music notes, life will always have it highs and lows. One must dance to the tune of it to create a wonderful masterpiece. While working in Manila to pursue his passion for music, he once suffered from anxiety. Reaching his dreams took many difficulties and hardwork. However, that experience didn’t stop the aspiring singer to strive harder and take risks that lead to his success.

Darating at darating yung time na bawat pangarap na gusto nating makamit basta marunong lang tayong maghintay, at habang tayo ay naghihintay dapat i-train na natin yung self natin kasi kapag dumating na ‘yung opportunity kailangang ready na tayo,” said JM.

He joined “Tawag ng Tanghalan” at the famous television show, “It’s Showtime”. He was hailed “Five-time Defending Champion” and bagged the “Madlang People’s Choice” award in 2018.

The triumph didn’t stop there, his song – “Magandang Dilag” – was played during the swimsuit competition of Miss Universe-Philippines way back in 2020.

JM Bales, truly has vanquished his adversaries. Now living the dream, and working to reach the far-fetching stars, he reminds us all that dreams can really be reached./PN
