‘Job scammed’ complainants seek police assistance

CAPIZ – Several individuals have lodged complaints against a woman in Capiz province. They accused her of allegedly deceiving them with promises of securing jobs abroad.

The complainants, who shared their ordeals on Bombo Radyo Roxas, identified the suspect as 67-year-old Marissa Basinang, reportedly a retired teacher from Barangay Dulangan, Pilar, Capiz.

According to the complainants, they transacted with Basinang between February and September 2023, believing her assurances and handing over sums of money, including amounts exceeding P10,000.

Basinang allegedly told them the money was for processing necessary documents and payments to Legacy Agency, which purportedly facilitated overseas employment in Australia.

However, the complainants claimed to have recently discovered that the agency did not exist.

Some managed to retrieve their money but still harbored resentment, as some had incurred debts or left their jobs.

Furthermore, the complainants claimed that Basinang had been using various surnames, such as Cowan and Baker, when accepting payments.

They suspect Basinang’s Australian husband and their children were also complicit.

Some complainants hailed not just from Capiz but from other regions. They were reportedly recruited while undergoing TESDA training in Manila to acquire NCII certification in caregiving./PN
