ILOILO Doctors’ College clinched the 2018 Iloilo Schools Sports Association Meet tertiary basketball title after a 72-58 win over John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University in a do-or-die final round on Monday at the Western Institute of Technology gym.

Jade Bryan Jardio led the scoring with 19 points while Lorence Nicole Magtolis added 17 markers for Doctors’, which wrapped up the best-of-three titular showdown with a 2-1 win-loss slate.

Fritchard Dulce finished with 21 points, while Rayghan Panizales chipped in 17 markers for the dethroned champion John B.

Doctors’ jumped to a double-digit lead right at the start with Jardio and Magtolis spearheading the offense. The gap widened 38-23 in the second period with shots from Marvelous Taghap.

John B. attempted to make a run in the second half but Doctors was quick to regain its shooting touch behind Magtolis, Jardio and Denry Rodriguez to keep the opponent at bay.

Also part of the squad mentored by Gerardo Mosquera are Darryl Deaño, Christian Rey Lanza, Christian Acero, Jan Edgar Fernandez, Raymark Arguelles, Melven Alleta, Rico Tatlonghari, Ronnel Maru, Alexander Parcon, Dave Flores, and Marianito Seguia.

“It’s a total team effort for the team,” said Mosquera. “It was really tough for us all tournament long. Good thing the players maintained their aggressiveness in this do-or-die match.”/PN
