John B. came up with crucial plays down the stretch to score 81-76 over Santa Clarita International School Primes in secondary boys category B on Friday. Nelson Lavilia Latosa led the scoring with 20 points.

In the other category B match Iloilo Scholastic Academy scored a 20-0 default victory over Bethany Life Christian Academy with the latter showing up in the venue without their head coach.

“The ISSA Meet is clear with its rules that a team cannot play without its head coach so we have no choice but to forfeit Bethany Life Christian Academy,” said ISSA Meet basketball commissioner Joe-an Tenorio.

In elementary boys basketball Hua Siong College of Iloilo Red Phoenix cruised to a 2-0 start after a 68-34 win over Saint Joseph School. Jake Andrei Guara and Rod Efren Hautea bannered Red Phoenix with 19 and 14 points, respectively.

University of San Agustin, meanwhile, cruised to a 52-39 victory over PAREF-Westbridge School for Boys. Robert Paul Figueroa led the way with 14 points while Vince Oton added 10 markers for San Agustin.

Santa Clarita Primes, on the other hand, bounced back from their opening-day loss in elementary boys with a 27-21 escape against Santa Isabel College of Iloilo./PN
