WITH Director Lav Diaz’s “Essential Truths of the Lake” slated to make its world premiere in Switzerland on Aug. 6, 2023, Filipino talent is set to make its mark on the international scene once again.
“We’re proud to be able to have it screened there,” said the acclaimed filmmaker. “It’s in Locarno, which is a great film festival because of its programming.”
“Essential Truths of the Lake” will be headlined by John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.
Both actors have worked with Lav on previous projects. One of the projects Shaina worked with him on was “Ang Panahon ng Halimaw” which premiered at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival. John Lloyd has also worked with Lav before on “Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis” which won the Alfred Bauer prize at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival.
It is no mean feat to be included in the Locarno Film Festival. This year, the international festival will feature over 200 films from all over the world.
“Locarno is no different from Venice, Berlin, and Cannes,” explained Lav. “It is really up there with those three festivals.”
The film is the Philippines’ entry to the main competition of the 2023 Locarno Film Festival which will run from Aug. 2 to 12.
Lav shared that work for “Essential Truths of the Lake” actually began as far back as January 2020, at the heels of the eruption of Taal Volcano. (PUSH)
