ILOILO City – Youth participation is essential in fighting corruption.

This, in a nutshell, is the idea behind the Office of the Ombudsman’s Campus Integrity Crusaders (CIC) program.

Today the anti-graft body will award Certificates of Accreditation as CIC Partner to school organizations during the 2nd CIC Congress at the Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Iloilo City’s Diamond Jubilee Hall on General Luna Street, City Proper.

The CIC program aims to empower the youth by “involving them in corruption-prevention initiatives, developing their leadership skills, and instilling values of integrity and social responsibility.”

Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales directed their regional field offices to hold CIC orientations and planning workshops in high schools and colleges.

The Office of the Ombudsman – Visayas Region 6, led by Acting Director Pio Dargantes, conducted such in Western Visayas and Negros Island Region.

The Ombudsman received more than 500 petitions for accreditation from various school organizations in the said areas, but only more than 300 — mostly from high schools — were qualified.

“There is a need to enhance the capacity of partnership with and participation of the youth in promoting a culture of integrity in society,” the anticorruption body said.

Deputy Ombudsman for the Visayas Paul Elmer Clemente will distribute the Certificates of Accreditation.

This year’s CIC Congress, being held in partnership with DepEd-Iloilo City, has the theme “Youth Leaders: Seeds of Integrity in Nation Building.”

The 1st CIC Congress, held in partnership with DepEd-Iloilo, was on Dec. 11, 2015 at the West Visayas State University Cultural Center on Luna Street, La Paz district./PN
