GUIMARAS – A 100-year-old resident of Barangay Balcon Melliza, Jordan, Guimaras received a P100,000 tax-free cash benefit last week.
Cornelio E. Catanus also received a letter of felicitation from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.
“Ang iyong makulay na buhay, kabilang ang iyong mga natatanging karanasan na siyang nagsilbing daan upang makarating ka sa kung nasaan ka ngayon, ay tunay na isang malaking inspirasyon, hindi lamang para sa iyong pamilya at mga kaibigan, kundi sa mas marami pang tao na iyong nakasalamuha, higit pa sa iyong inaakala,” read part of the letter of felicitation.
The cash incentive and letter were turned over to Catanus by Jordan mayor Cresente P. Chavez, together with Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer Lolita G. Garque.
Witnessing the turnover was the Office of the Senior Citizens Affair Head Lucia Eday, Punong Barangay Cecile Elevencione, Social Welfare Assistant Loveleen Genanda, and the DSWD Regional Office Staff.
Republic Act 10868 (Centenarians Act of 2016) mandates that Filipinos who reach the age of 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, shall be honored with:
* a letter of felicitation from the President of the Philippines congratulating the celebrator for his or her longevity;
* a cash gift of P100,000./PN
