Jordan priest now free from virus; church lockdown lifted

JORDAN, Guimaras – St. John the Baptist Parish Church in Barangay Poblacion here is no longer on lockdown.

The municipal government ended the church’s lockdown on Nov. 27 believing it had averted the possible spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the parish.

According to Mayor Ruben Corpuz, the church’s parish priest already tested negative for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.

The priest also completed 14 days of quarantine, he added, and that the church had been disinfected.

Meanwhile, the Rural Health Unit completed tracing the 15 close contacts of the priest. They tested negative for the coronavirus.

Corpuz issued an executive order lifting the church’s lockdown upon the recommendation of the Municipal Health Team on the management of COVID-19.

The St. John the Baptist Parish Church was locked down beginning Nov. 17 after the parish priest tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 16. He was a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case.

During the church’s lockdown, the following were observed:

* all individuals in the said location were not allowed to go out; they underwent strict home quarantine for 14 days

* only the health personnel of the Municipal Health Team were allowed to contact the individuals in this location for constant monitoring

* concerned individuals were provided food by the municipal government during the lockdown/PN
