Jordan town is Guimaras’ ‘Rescuelympics’ champ

ILOILO City – The municipality of Jordan, represented by Barangay Hoskyn, won this year’s Rescuelympics, which capped the observance of the National Disaster Resilience Month in the province of Guimaras.

Organized by the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) in partnership with different national government agencies, the Rescuelympics was held on July 28 at the provincial covered gym.

As champion, the municipality of Jordan bagged P15,000 in cash prize. The team also won Best in Situation Analysis and Low-Lying Technique with a cash prize of P5,000 each.

The Municipality of Buenavista, represented by Barangay Salvacion, was declared second and received P10,000 and the Best in CPR [cardiopulmonary resuscitation] special award of P5,000.

San Lorenzo town, represented by Barangay Constancia, placed third and received P7,500.

On the other hand, the municipalities of Nueva Valencia, represented by Barangay La Paz, and Sibunag, represented by Barangay Bubog, received consolation prizes and P3,000 in cash each.

Participants competed in CPR, Situational Analysis Application, and Low-Lying Techniques. They were also evaluated based on speed, approach, proper use and handling of equipment, and execution of appropriate techniques.

Lino Galea, Executive Assistant III, who represented Gov. JC Rahman A. Nava, underscored the importance of preparedness in mitigating the impact of any hazard.

Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Teresita Siason, on her part, extended gratitude to the five municipalities and the national agencies that were instrumental in the success of this year’s Rescuelympics.

National Disaster Resilience Month is observed every July. This year’s theme was “BIDAng Pilipino: Building a Stronger Filipino Well-being towards Disaster Resilience”. (PIA6-Iloilo/GuimarasPIO)/PN
