JORDAN, Guimaras – There is no lockdown at the wharf here or in the entire town for that matter from Dec. 24 to 26, said Mayor Ruben Corpuz.
He dismissed as “alarming fake news” the information circulating on social media about the purported lockdown.
Corpuz also said it was not true that motorboats from Guimaras to Iloilo City – and vice versa – would stop operating during those three days.
Neither the Philippine Coast Guard, Maritime Industry Authority or Guimaras provincial government ordered a stoppage of boat operations, he stressed.
Corpuz appealed for a stop to the sharing of the fake news because this could cause public panic.
He assured the people of Jordan that the municipal government would dutifully follow recommendations and directives from the regional and national government’s Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on coronavirus disease, and from the Municipal Health Teams.
The whole of Guimaras is under a modified general community quarantine.
As of Dec. 22, Jordan’s cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) reached 85 (cumulative). Of these, 81 have recovered while four died, leaving the town with no more active cases.
In the whole Guimaras province, cases reached 243 since recording started in March. Of these, 221 cases have recovered while four died (the Jordan casualties).
Guimaras currently has 18 active COVID-19 cases.
Eight of the active cases were from the town of Nueva Valencia, seven from Buenavista and three from Sibunag.
Nine of the active cases were in various quarantine facilities; five in a hospital in Iloilo City and four were quarantined also in Iloilo City./PN
