MANILA – JP Voltes Football Club-Marikina got back on the winning track after a 5-2 victory over shorthanded Global-Cebu Football Club in the 2017 Philippines Football League at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium.
Takumi Uesato fired four goals while Takashi Odawara added another one.
With the win, JP Voltes moved up to fifth place in the standings with 24 points, on seven wins, six losses and three draws.
The club went on a goal spree early after Global-Cebu fielded in Philippine Azkals star Misagh Bahadoran as goal keeper in lieu of Patrick Deyto, who is serving a suspension for his red card in the previous match.
Uesato opened the scoring for JP Voltes with his close range hit in the second minute. He then scored two more goals, one in the 13th minute and another in the 18th, for a 3-0 advantage.
Global-Cebu had their chances but Rufino Sanchez and Darryl Roberts misfired their attempts. JP Voltes increased the lead further to 5-0 at the half with back-to-back hits from Odawara and Uesato.
Global-Cebu tried to mount a comeback in the second half with Sanchez, Hikaru Minegishi and Paolo Salenga getting their touches but failed to penetrate the defense of JP Voltes.
The Cebu-based football team finally entered the scoring column in the 63rd minute as Sanchez send the ball to the right side of the goal. It was followed by another hit by Dennis Villanueva for the final tally.
